How to verify online bookings with an OTP

Learn how to verify clients when they book online with an OTP.

SalonBridge allows you to verify a client's mobile number before they complete an online booking by sending them a One-Time PIN (OTP) via SMS. This can help reduce fraudulent or malicious online bookings by requiring clients to have access to a legitimate mobile number before proceeding.

Please note: Each OTP SMS sent will cost your business 1 SMS credit.

How to Enable OTP Verification

Click on My Business and then on Online Bookings from the SalonBridge dashboard:

Find the Verify Client Mobile Number setting and enable it. Once done, click on 'Save'.

Once enabled, clients making an online booking will be sent an OTP via SMS before they can proceed with booking their appointment. They will need to enter the OTP to verify their mobile number.

When Should I Enable OTP Verification?

OTP verification is generally recommended for businesses that do not require clients to pay a deposit when booking online.

If you already require an online deposit, OTP verification can still be enabled. However, it may provide less additional benefit, as a client who is willing to successfully pay a deposit is generally more likely to be making a legitimate booking.

Does OTP Verification Prevent Malicious Bookings?

OTP verification cannot guarantee that malicious bookings will never be made.

However, it adds an additional verification step by requiring the person making the booking to use a legitimate mobile number that can receive the OTP SMS before they can continue with their online booking.

This can make it more difficult to create bookings using fake or invalid mobile numbers and provides businesses with an additional layer of protection for their online bookings.
